If anyone here is familiar with fossil springs, I've heard that there is a much easier and smooth trail down to the water than the old jeep trail. Is this true? How does one access this alternative trail?

The only reason I ask is because I want to bring my dad there and he's a little too old to handle the jeep trail, which is quite the trail! I really want for him to see the springs as I'm sure he'd enjoy it very much.

i have hiked in through the trail head in strawberry, its a 4 mile hike that goes down into the canyon. Its pretty easy but it is 4 miles (which can be taxing depending on how much gear you have on). i dont know if this is the jeep trail that your talking about. I have also hiked in on the flumes (i think they are gone now), i wouldnt recommend anyone do that EVER, there is a service road that starts where the flumes end; I believe somewhere near child's hotsprings and power plant outside of camp verde but i'm not sure if it is accessable to the public. hope that helps:)

      Thanks Carly,
Yep, the 4 mile trail you're talking about is called the old jeep trail. I do know about the Flume trail as well. The trail I've hear about just might be the flume road but I have doubts about it, especially since you said you would never do that again. What was so bad about it?

well, we didnt hike out on the road, we hiked out on top of the flumes themselves! it was rediculously scary. at points, the flumes are 100 feet off the ground, they are about 3 feet wide and really old. the top of the flume is made of old wooden planks that were falling apart and rotting, at certain points there were huge gaps in the wood that would allow you to see the massive amount of water being sucked through the flume itself. the worst part was that you had to calculate each step to be a certain distance so you would step on the stable parts of the top so you didnt fall through the rotting wood into the rushing water in the flume. yeah....4 miles of that crap will make you cry like a baby.
