Flattening the Flatiron

Hi all. I've longed to hike to the top of the Flatiron since I heard about it a couple of years ago when I first moved out here. So, I've committed myself to doing it late this winter or very early spring.

I feel pretty confident I could do it by myself, I'm in decent shape and have some experience hiking. My biggest fear would be not finding the route to the top (though it sounds like a straight shot up the draw). So I'd much rather do it with someone (or group) familiar with it. Are there any formal or informal groups or individuals with a trip planned to the Flatiron that wouldn't mind showing the way to someone?

If anyone here is familiar with fossil springs, I've heard that there is a much easier and smooth trail down to the water than the old jeep trail. Is this true? How does one access this alternative trail?

The only reason I ask is because I want to bring my dad there and he's a little too old to handle the jeep trail, which is quite the trail! I really want for him to see the springs as I'm sure he'd enjoy it very much.

The weather has been great (ok, it's alittle rainy today), but otherwise it's been perfect. I've been outside everyday, hiking, mountain biking, walking every day this week and I've got the spring fever!

Surely someone else around has got it too. Want to to go Fossil Springs? To Horton Creek? To the Tonto Narrows? There's tons of stuff to do outdoor, let's go!

I've generally got weekends free, so lets make some plans.

Peace,

artist/astrologer visiting sedona, looking for family to connect with...

Dear beautiful Arizona family -
hello friends - my name is verdarluz and i'll be heading to the beautiful southwest, visiting from portland, on wed. mar 28th - i'll be attending a 5 day astrology conference called the Blast (www.theblastastrologyconference.com) that looks to be AMAZING! - i'll be bringing my astro/archetypal art and tree mandalas to the conference. I'm looking to meet up with family there in/around sedona who might be willing to house me for a few days - i would love to share my thai/shiatsu/reiki practice and astrological wisdom with friends in exchange for some shelter. I'm also doing serious documentary and art videos right now, some preparing for this year's burning man, one of which is tree-dancing, which i would absolutely love to do out in a magical red rock location. i realize that this may be short notice and a bit much to ask for a couple days to share, but am really hoping to meet some family, Burners and otherwise, who would like to engage all of these similar languages of contact dance, bodywork, shamanism, astrology, visionary art., music... I'm also interested in meeting those who explore the Tantric Arts. I will have copies of my partner Tallulah Suliss' epic visionary erotic video entitled Divine Nectar...You can check out my profile on tribe and my skeleton of a webpage at www.symbiart.net, my musical journeys at myspace.com/amritzaba- Tallulah's one of my Friends and her website is tallulahsulis.com

I arrive on Wed. and will be at the conference from thrusday thru monday and may try to split a hotel with someone during that time, but if i can stay with someone that would be preferred. Then i was hoping to stay at least another week til about the 11th to meet people and explore/photograph the trails and mystical red rock.

Thank you all -

I want to do the hardest damn trail there is.
I want to do days that are too long, ascents that are too steep, scrambles that are too dangerous,
Because if I'm not doing the hardest thing there is,
then I'm not even on this trip.
I'm not even alive.
I don't even exist.

Hello.. I am taking a boating trip to Lake Powell in a week and have done quite a bit of research and planning. There are nearly 100 canyons and several things to see in each canyon... quite overwhelming!

I would love to get some tips on great spots or canyons to see. We'd probably want to avoid the super busy places like Rainbow Arch, but aside from that we are looking for fun areas to hike, beach bum, camp and explore. We depart from Wahweap so western areas are easier for us to get to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello ,

We are looking for info on the hike in the Superstitions from Boulder Canyon to Labarge Canyon. What is the approx mileage from trail head? Is the pool worth swimming? We have never been here and are wondering if this is a worthy hike.

Thank you for your input.
Hi AZ hikers! Sedona in Feb, anyone?

I am new to tribe. I'm planning to go to Sedona the second half of Feb to do some hiking. I was wondering if anyone has any interest in planning a trip, even just a day hike. Or just sharing some good info. I was in the town of Sedona for a day, but just dodging time share sharks, not on trails! I'm staying with a friend in Phoenix.

I looked at this sites main photo a spot that I used to pass at least 5 times a week, It was a big part of my life my recharger of lifes battery, and realized that I have gone maybe 5 times this year, very sad. Its hard to get inspired to start back when the temp is still over 100 but Im going to try. Any words of encouragment, pats on the back, reminders of how great a good hike feels might just keep me on the path...or trail as it were. See ya at the top!

I took them on two days in August ‘05 at Usery Park. Usery Pass Mountain is practically in my back yard. I love hiking there because I can wander all over the mountain off the trail and the hike is relatively easy. I have not hiked Usery in a month and I will severely limit my hiking this fall. I am going to run the pf chang's rock and roll half marathon Jan 15 so I am training on elliptical trainers and treadmills. I tend to run up and down the trail, which usually results in a sprained ankle. The trails are very rocky right now due to all the rain so be careful. Maybe I will go hiking next week and take some new photos...of my swollen ankle.

Since I live in New York I want to do some warm weather hiking. I usually go to the Califonia desert and would like to try something new. Also looking for hiking friends. New Yorkers are wimpy.

Searching for Hiking partner(s) in / around Tucson

Hola!
I'm a twenty year old guy from Tucson, and because no one in my family and none of my friends are really into hiking, and I don't like to go alone; I'm searching for another person, or group of persons who would be interesting in getting together for hikes.

I know quite a few decent trails around the Tucson area, and I can provide transport if its needed. Any body is welcome, other guys, girls, couples, what ever. This area is so beautiful and would love to have someone to share the experience with! Reply to this post or send me an email: euphoricdayz@yahoo.com.

I look forward to getting some kind of response!
Much <3,
-Allen

The tribe is Colorado camping and surrounding areas. Arizona is included but also UT WY MT ID NM and CO. This tribe is for us to share and ask advice about these places from people who know about them.

I love camping and hiking and about anything in nature. Please come share Arizona with us cause I know it is one of the most beautiful states and we need it represented for when we come to your area and maybe we can help you when you come to ours.

Hi all -
Retired out here about a year ago from NW Indiana. Throw some stuff in my 4x4 and head for the desert drom time to time for a few days to "meander" the desert. Think that gaining more structure and sharing the experience would make it more enjoyable.
Not ready for a MAJOR hike, but interested in preparation and working toward that goal.
